特例探討 ：做為某種觀念、感受時則反須用複數

The acoustics of the hall are very bad. (音效= resonance)

Statistics are sometimes misleading. (統計數字=Numbers)

Your mathematics are / is wrong. (計算結果=computations)

My ethics do not allow me to do so. (道德=morals)

Due to prejudice, Some people’s politics are ludicrous. (政治觀念)

易被誤解為複數的普通名詞單數：

summons(傳票)：實為普通名詞單數，複數為summonses
 I received a summons to attend the court.-------------------我收到一張出庭的傳票
He was caught to the court after several summonses.----------屢傳不到，拘押到庭

gallows(絞刑架) ：實為普通名詞單數，複數為gallowses
To marry such a woman is to fix up a gallows for yourself.--婚姻乃男人之絞刑架
Mr. Chen has a gallows in his face.------------------------老陳臉色不佳，印堂發黑

news(新聞)：實為不可數名詞，永遠視為單數
No news is good news.---------------------------------------------------------好事不出門
Ill news runs space.-------------------------------------------------------------壞事傳千里
