被動式(Passive voice )：表示有別於以上主動語態的反向語態；即是將主動語態句子「我吃飯」變成「飯被我吃」的被動說法，所以主詞通常為事物，以人為主詞的被動語態通常視P.P.為形容詞，而英語是一種習慣運用被動語態的語言，若要翻譯成中文有時不得不轉為主動方式，不然中文反而會不通順：(be + P.P.)。

I am licked.-------------------------------------------------------我徹底輸了

you are gone.--------------------------------------------------------你死定了

He is interested in English.-----------------------------------他對英文有興趣

The book is written by Mr. Chen. -------------------這本書是陳先生的大作

A stray dog was run over by a car. --------------------一隻流浪狗被車輾過

You will be (being) waited . --------------------恭候大駕(表對未來的意志)

The book must be read. ----------------這本書不容錯過(表對強烈的意志)

You have been (being) loved by me so much.---------------我一直深愛著你

The boy has been indulged by his parents.-------- John 這孩子一直深受寵愛

進階觀念

(1) 感官動詞主動形式卻具被動意味，如：look , smell , taste , sound , feel ……

He looks taller than his father. (He is looked to be taller than his father. 口語已不使用)

The ice feels cold. (The ice is felt to be cold. 口語已不使用)

What happened to you; you smell like shit. (you are smelt like shit. 口語已不使用)

(2) 其他主動形式卻具被動意味的動詞，如：behave , hide , hang , happen , wash , bathe , turn , push , spread , fill , develop , measure , sell , blow , read , act , build , open , fly , fall , prove ……

This book sells well. (This book is sold well.)
The door suddenly opened. (The door was suddenly opened.)
Her eyes fill with tears. (Her eyes are filled with tears.)
Varieties of kites are flying in the sky. (Varieties of kites are being flied in the sky.)
When spring comes, the field will cover(=be covered) with various beautiful flowers .
The rumor proved(= was proved) true.

I can't believe this will happen to me.
