(3)代名詞所有格(genitive)：由於具有表明物主的所有權的意思，又稱為所有格限定詞，因中文中亦有“的”的意思，具有形容詞的意味，也稱為所有格形容詞，簡言之所有格之後必接名詞。

【觀念確認】所有格後絕不可接代名詞，也不可與指示代名this, that和冠詞the, a, an同時用於名詞之前。

Mary is one of my friends.(正)

                          Mary is a friend of mine.(正…我的朋友)

                          Mary is a friend of my friend’s.(正…朋友的朋友)

                             Mary is a my friend. (誤)

                             Mary is my one friend. (誤)

                             Mary is one friend of mine.(誤)

                             Mary is a friend of my friends.(誤)

                             Mary is one friend of my friends.(誤)

                             This is your book. (正)

                             This book is yours. (正)

                             This book of yours is good . (正)

                             This is a your book. (誤)

                             This book is your one. (誤)

                             This one book is yours. (誤)

                             Your this book is a good book. (誤)

用於敬稱的代名詞所有格

在以從屬子句做為受詞或補語的句中，若將名詞子句改為動名詞片語，若從屬子句的主詞與主要子句不同，動名詞前須將主詞改用所有格。(詳參動名詞)
 

         他堅持由他付錢

                   He insisted that he should pay the money.

                   He insisted on his paying the money.

我怕他真的會那麼做

                  I am afraid that he would do it that way.

                  I am afraid of his doing it that way.

(4)            所有代名詞(Possessive Pronoun) = (代)名詞所有格 + 名詞

      Mary is my sister not hers (= her sister ).

      His house is bigger than mine(= my house ).

      My grades are as good as yours(= your grades ).

      He is a friend of mine(= my friends ).

      Their teacher is so humorous, but ours is so serious.( = our teacher).

      These books are his, not theirs.

      This car is his father’s, not my father’s.(名詞所有格可直接轉作所有代名詞)

I don’t like a life like his. (正)

I don’t like a life like this. (正)

I don’t like a life like that. (正)

I don’t like a life like yours. (正)

I don’t like a life like you. (誤)

I don’t like a life like him. (誤)

用於謙恭的所有代名詞：
Yours truly…, Sincerely yours…(= I )
