〈表義務，當然〉可視為ought to, have to的意義

如果他一定會遲到，叫他不用來了

= Be he to come late, tell him not to come.

如果我要去日本，我們不就搭同班機了

If I were to go to Japan, we would take the same flight.

= Were I to go to Japan, we would take the same flight.

太陽如果從西邊出來，我就嫁給你

If the sun were to rise in the west, I would marry you.

= Were the sun to rise in the west, I would marry you.

他若謹慎點，工作早就做完了

If he had been more careful, he would have finished the work.

= Had he been more careful, he would have finished the work.

耳提面命 blame如同happen在句中通常不用被動型式。
